I have a lab that I have been training for just over 2 years. We started with tracking wounded deer last year, and he is doing really well. We train scent tracking with and without blood. Hiis scent tracking abilities are not limited to deer.
If you hunt in the western Oklahoma area and unsure of your shot, or lost the blood trail, or wasn't a blood trail, we may be able to help you recover your deer.
First thing is mark the spot the animal was at when shot. If he is able to get a good scent of the target animal, we are much more successful. Try to not walk through the scent, this will spread the scent everywhere you step and will add difficulty. In addition to marking the spot the animal was in when shot, mark the first blood and take a picture of blood if there is any.
I may be able to help in Canadian, Grady, Blaine, Dewey, Custer, Caddo, Washita, Kiowa, and Beckham counties.
