Life has been quite busy lately and I wasn't planning to even turkey hunt as my lease didn't have any and public land nearby is hunted too hard for me to chance it. My neighbor by where we're building called me on Sunday night before the opener all excited. He's 75 years old and we've hit it off really well. He asks if I've been out there lately as there's a big tom that keeps strutting around in his field just out of reach from my property. He told me to come out opening evening, hop the fence and kill the bird. I showed up early to just chat with him. He was so animated and wished me luck. I setup within 30 yards of our fence so I could get my decoy on the peak of a hill with the most visibility with the 40+ mph gusts. After 30 minutes, the wind died for about 10 seconds. I let out one call from my pot call and a gobble sounded off 30 yards. I look to my left, on my property, and there he is, full strut locked on my decoy but on my side of the fence. I watched him for a minute and knew he wasn't crossing a 4' welded wire fence. My neighbor told me to not worry about shooting through the fence, so I didn't. 9" beard and 1 1/4" spurs. Biggest bird I've ever killed. I walked there opposite way of my truck to show my neighbor. He's 75 but was dancing a jig when he opened the door and saw the bird. Made both of our days. Couldn't ask for a better neighbor lol. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
