I appreciate the courtesy.

I am concerned that you may be missing the point however.
The only Soldiers allowed to CC on base, to my knowledge, is CID.
In all of my interactions with CID, they were always OC.

I have observed ND's and AD's at gun barrels at FOBs and at gun barrels or firing lines at the range.
I have observed Soldiers of all ranks perform acts which put their health and even their lives in danger (outside of combat) with and without firearms.

I propose that concealed carry is a different skill and uses different equipment than what Soldiers are trained in.

I wrote that Privates would blow off their privates in an attempt at humor.
I didn't mean to disrespect Privates; everyone starts somewhere.
I didn't mean they would literally shoot their (edit) off.

I've had E-4's who knew more about weapons than me, could out-shoot me, etc.
I've met that O-7 who shoots twice a year only and can not qualify without a battle buddy.

I appreciate your service.

I appreciate your different opinion.

I don't know if there is an intelligent way to debate the CC on base discussion.
My civilian job doesn't let me CC.
I guess that's a place to start.

Statistically Privates would not be allowed to carry anyways, because every state that I know of requires that you're 21 before you can acquire a handgun license, or whatever it's called in the various states that have military installations. The vast majority of people who enlist, do so right out of high school or shortly thereafter at the age of 18. I did so at 17, with parental consent of course. That being the case, most are at least E-4s by the time they're allowed to carry in the states in which they're stationed. On the other hand, military tactical training is very different than any active shooter scenario I've ever heard of. Perhaps they could impose additional training requirements, as most do with motorcycles? You may well have a motorcycle and license, but if you ever want to ride it on base most require at least an MSF basic rider's course. The same could be done with concealed carry, could it not?

Oddly at the age of 18, I was handed a full auto M16 and 120 rounds of .223 each duty day and instructed to make sure nobody stole the two dozen or so multi-million dollar AWACS sitting out on the pavement at Tinker. I guess I did the job well enough as none were taken on my watch during four years of service. I did get to jack up a two star general though when he walked out of Bldg 230 without is line-badge. :)

Dutchwrangler, I too have stood sentry duty many times over but it was always with an issued weapon and rounds. If I recall correctly the topic being discussed is concealed carry of personal weapons while on a military installation. Someone please correct if I'm mistaken.
