I am about to take up this LED project in my kitchen and I am looking for a little clarification. Im hoping someone here has done this also.

They are led strip lights taht mount under your cabinets with 3M tape. I will also need a powere supply and dimmer.

Im going to use the Non-waterproof 300 LED SMD warm white 3100K lights. I beleive this will provide a good color of white light for under the counter.
I am going to order the 100 Watt 12 Volt power supply. I like this model because I am going to do 2 seperate runs in the kitchen. With the lights and extension wire in between all of them I am figuring about a 9 foot run for each. I was concerened about running an 18 foot system because people mentioned voltage drops.

Will the power supply I am going to order be appropriate for this application? Is there anything else I am missing?

Here is a video of what I am trying to achieve

why do you want a dimmer for it? Mood? Ive installed a ton of that stuff and its pretty neat and cost is little. I dont really understand. Are you wanting to put two strips side by side and two runs of 9 feet (36 total feet) or just two runs 9 feet long for a total of 18 feet of lights? That strip shows a draw of 2 amps per 5 meters (16.4 feet) that power supply and dimmer combo would handle up to 4 full strips. so either way you are more then good there. You should put the power supply inside some sort of vented junction box since the primary wires are exposed Use a decent size wire for your secondary size Id start with an 18/2

Unfortunately I can't give much insight on the installation or power supply end, but I will tell you that 3100k is not very white. 2700k is Soft White by most makers own admission, and only recently has 3100k become "acceptable" for "Bright" white. Unfortunately, 3100k is about as bright as you can get in LED, at least right now.

I would go the prefab route, but it gets expensive. For about $50 I can do a custom job.

I want to put one single strip under all of the cabinets in the kitchen. in order to achieve this I will ahve to make a short run over to the cabinet that has the glasses in it. its on the left side of the sink by itself. I am having quartz countertops installed in two weeks and i can easily hide some extra wire at that time.

I plan on leaving the power supply out in the open. i am going to leave it up on top of the cabinets.

Should I go with the 5050 LED's. I was affraid they would be too bright. I want the dimmer to tone them down incase they put out more light than I am anticipating.

Thanks for the insite and help

Sounds like a fun little project. Id like to again persuade you to protect the live terminals on the power supply if they do not come protected by some means. Someday someone is going to put somethin up ther or try to reach sometinh up there and get hit. Heck maybe a mouse eager to see what that little warm box is might short it out.. At the least get a little of the liquid electrical tape and dab it over the terminals on the line side

Sounds good. I will protect it with something. Thanks for the help.

I plan to get it going in the next week or so. When I get it finished I will post up some pictures.

They even have ones that are RGB (red, Green, Blue) and there is a controller that changes with the beat of the music you are playing. I wonder what my wife would think......

ok i want to bring this back, this is something that I want to do, but need a little help getting started.

1st what exactly do i need? I want to do below and possibly on top of cabinets, and the dimming feature would be ideal. Where are you getting your power from? Are you tapping into something etc?

thanks
