The only negative I have is that it’s dirty. But, it’s called unique for a reason, tbere is a load for just about every caliber out there. I loaded 5 gr in 9mm and truncated bullets. It was the only way I could get a gen 1 kel tec sub 2000 to run. Ran like a seeing matching after that.
Have not loaded 45 with it but I bet it will run great

I have loaded 45 acp with Unique and while it is a little dirty, that has improved and it will work great. It was my Go To pistol powder since you can load almost anything with it outside of those fufu girly-man calibers. You know the ones that claim to be badazz but do not do anything better than a classic caliber.

Wish I had my old books on my 45ACP loads with Unique. Did a lot of reloading in the late 70’s and through the 80’s using Unique (as well as with 231 and Bullseye) in once fired military brass with 200gr. hard cast SWCs and CCI Large Primers. Somehow I want to say 5.7gr … ???

Don’t remember it being super clean or really “dirty”. I had a lot of free powder, brass and lead back then so I didn’t think it was “dirty” … only “free”.

Unique has always been my go to powder for .45 ACP with lead or jacketed bullets. I've also used it in .38 Special, mid range .357 Magnum, mid range .44 Magnum and a few 9mm loads. Not much it won't do, that's why they called it Unique. It is a bit dirty, but every now and then you have to clean your gun regardless of what powder is used.

Unique is my go to powder for 45 Acp and many others.

Years ago in fact, my dads lose friend had an automated testing rig that he tested dozens of powders in my dads P14-45 1911, and XD45 tactical, and the unique load was a true standout for performance by far.

I love it so much that I still load oodles of unique in 45 to this day, and ironically just finished a run of 1k 230gr federal HST last night with unique.

It meters pretty good (for pistol use) in my rcbs “dink dink” dumper as well.

It also has great velocity gains in carbine length barrels.

It is, maybe, a bit dirty, but 45 Acp as a caliber tends to be dirtier than many other calibers and I certainly wouldn’t consider dirtiness to be a factor when decide to use or not to use unique.

Overall, I highly recommend it for 45 Acp (and many other calibers from pistol to rifle use).

Alliant’s site shows 6.5g with a 230 TMJ bullet at 832fps. Sounds like a nice range load

For these 230gr HSTs, I went with 6.8grs of unique. Here are those chrono results in various barrel lengths.
