Here's the post I saw this evening:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a call to action to all US Marines, Active or not. We will be setting up watch at the USMC Recruiting Stations to protect our Active Duty Brothers who are forbidden from protecting themselves.
Contact me immediately to be put on the duty roster to protect our Brother Marines from 0700-2000 hrs. at their recruiting locations.
This is not optional, all Marines who ever served are members of the most elite Brotherhood in the World. We will not allow our brothers to remain in harms way with no means to defend themselves.
I think it's a good idea for all the branches of the service. Being armed in Harm's Way is common sense. Forced to be disarmed in Harm's Way is manslaughter. Standing armed in Harm's Way for those who cannot be armed is noble. Those who disarm our troops and put them in Harm's Way commit treason. Those who disarm our troops and put them in Harm's Way are despots.
So far, the volunteers are positioning themselves to be the first victims from the photo's I've seen.
Meh, no more than anyone else standing watch at a gate, building or someplace else. Given the location of most recruiting offices, it could be pretty hard to remain concealed and still remain an effective deterrent or to execute a timely response. I think that part of the point is to be visible and agree that the effort is a noble one. Problem is that, in a week or two, the effort will most likely fade.
Retired U.S. Marine Infantry officer here. I don't think sitting out front and being a target is smart. Don't mind taking my lunch and my iPad and sitting in a good location offering adequate observation of the area for awhile though. Remember, concealed means concealed.
