For consideration.
I personally believe that violent media can have a significant effect on SOME people.

........In modern culture, Grossman argued, the trend of displaying ultraviolence for entertainment—in movies, television shows, and video games—has had much the same effect, particularly with society’s youngest members.

The medical community would corroborate this observation in July 2000, when the leaders of the American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry made a brief but potent joint statement for a Congressional health summit.

“At this time, well over 1,000 studies, including reports from the Surgeon General’s office, the National Institute of Mental Health, and numerous studies conducted by leading figures within our medical and public health organizations—our own members—point overwhelmingly to a causal connection between media violence and aggressive behavior in some children,” they wrote. “The conclusion of the public health community, based on over 30 years of research, is that viewing entertainment violence can lead to increases in aggressive attitudes, values and behavior, particularly in children.”...............

Manufacturers spent about $17 billion dollars last year directed at children alone to influence their "buying" decisions.
They are well aware of how repetition to their product influences children...they don't spend that kind of money HOPING it will.

You all can Google it yourselves, but the percentage of violence portrayed on television..both on cable and networks, is phenomenally higher than it was just a coupla' decades ago.
By the same token, readers may Google an endless number of documents online in which numerous child advocacy organizations have conducted research on how it has affected children and their attitudes towards inflicting pain on others, and their insensitivty to it.

Remember Tipper Gore and the PMRC?

When it comes to advertising, it's an accepted fact that continuous exposure to something influences buying decisions, but when it comes to exposure to violence continously it doesn't have an effect?

Remember Tipper Gore and the PMRC?

All Tipper Gore and the PMRC did was put a condom on the 1st Amendment. They put an "explicit lyrics" warning on Frank Zappa's Jazz From Hell, which is an instrumental album. All the PMRC did was show how easily we will vote away our rights(speech in this case).
