Seeing as my heritage is Half Native American of the Apache tribe, continual war there.

And as far as my other side, migrated to America just post Civil War from Sweden, Great grandfather joined up and fought in WWI.

Grandfather born mid '20's, Military for Life. Fought WWII, Vietnam, Korean, Desert Storm, retired. Passed away 5 years ago.

Last family member to serve to date, though I may join up once finished with residency. I like the Military, but didn't like them telling me what kind of medicine I'd have to practice.

Father- Marine,Korea and Viet Nam
Paternal Grandfather- Marine,WW2( including Pearl Harbor)
Dads brother- Marine,Viet Nam

My fathers paternal grandfather came from Scotland, his maternal side came from Ireland. I'm sure his descendants fought in something in those countries, especially the Irish.

My mothers mother was much younger than my grandfather and was in the Navy during WW2 but served stateside as a nurse. Her mother may have had brothers who fought in WW1. Her family migrated from the deep south so she more than likely had relatives who were Civil war vets,Confederates I would assume.

My mothers father was nearly full blood Osage-Kaw indian with about 1/4 French and was born on an indian reservation just before 1900,he didnt serve in WW1 or 2.
My mothers paternal grandfather was half Osage indian and half French so he more than likely had relatives who fought on indian or French sides; her paternal grandmother was full blood Kanza(Kaw) indian with Sioux ancestry- I have a book of my moms paternal family history and her paternal grandmother told stories in the book told to her from her parents of her familys wars against other indian tribes, relatives in the French-Indian war,and battles between their tribe and the US Govt where her family migrated from in the South Dakota area.

Oct. 14th 1066 Battle of Hastings, not sure how many x-great that would be,Grandfather fought with King Harold II of England. He was a Scottish Highlander. His name is on the Monument.

Two of his male decedents then came to the States, both fought in the War of Independence. One was with Washington at the Delaware.

Great, great, great Grandfather and Grandmother on my Mothers side,1836 Trail of Tears.

Uncle in Korea.

Dad was a farmer so was deferred. I missed the draft for Viet Nam by a year and am blind in one eye so I couldn't join.

LC great thread....

Last year I started a little research on my mom's side of the family. Her first relative (James P.) landed in Virginia way back in 1700. He was English, but had taken a French bride and traveled here with her family. His grandson, named John P. fought with a very young Lt. Col. Geo. Washington in the French and Indian War. Later, John P. and his son, another James, fought together at the battle of Cowpens for Gen. Morgan. during the Revolutionary War. It really gave me a huge sense of pride to know this. I need to start researching again and see what else I can find. I know some more folks on my Mom's side fought in the Civil War and were given land in Alabama (I think) for payment. They all later moved to Texas though. One of them, Silas, became a preacher. I have photos of some of their headstones from a cemetery in Moody, Tx. if I can find them I will post them later.

There are some great responses to this thread. Lots of family history!!:D

My sister is into the geneology, so she has found out we had one family member in the civil war, my dad in WWII, an Uncle in the Korean war with the Navy, and me in Vietnam....nothing since.

I'm not to sure about dad side of the family. their kinda weird, but my Ma's dad was in WWI, Her brothers, one fought in Burma, and another fought in the Pacific while in the Navy. Her youngest brother quit school, joined the Navy and was MIA when his Oiler he was assigned to was sunk by a torpedo. From his letters, was only in the Navy four weeks before they got the telegram. :(

My dad was in the 4th ID while in Vietnam back in 68-69. I remember seeing the 'moon walk' on the coin operated tv's when we picked him up at the Tulsa airport..I was like 3 yo back then?

I wasted time sitting in the desert during Desert Storm/Shield.

My grandma does genealogy and has tracked back quite a few relatives to previous wars including many that fought for the south during the civil war.

As for ones that I had the privilege of knowing.....my grandfather fought in WWII for the 12th Armored Division, as well as the Korean Police action. He actually took the flag from in front of the borgemeisters* house in Landsberg Germany where Hitler was imprisoned when he wrote Mein Kampf. We no longer have the flag due to the fact that we donated it to the 12th Armored Division museum, however, if anyone would like to see them, I could scan the pictures and upload them.

My cousin has commanded troops recently in the middle east (I believe he has only done three terms so far) one or two outside of Baghdad and I believe the third term they sent him to Afghanistan. He is a sergeant First Class in the Army and has won SMDC NCO, as well as the Audie Murphy Award (European Theatres and all theatres)

My grandpa was a pilot in WWII when US bombed Ploiesti in Romania because Germans occupied that region. My brother in law has two tours in Iraq and is now in Afghanistan. My brother helped enforce the Romanian/Yugoslavian border then when that conflict was going on over there.
