Now, I don't think it is original. I can't find any reference to this thing. Including Webster's book.

Serial number, all matching, see below, shows an early 1892 manufacture date. (if it is a cut down rifle)

It is just over a actual carbine length.

Here it is with a Engineer's carbine.

Here is the weird part.

It is all matching.

Including the bolt, which is bent.

Not sure what this stamp is.

Now check out the front barrel band.

Whoever did this, put everything back the way it should be. Including the cleaning rod.

Definitely looks to be cut.

The way it was done doesn't scream bubba to me. I really wonder what the history is.

I guess I'm a weird non standard carbine collector now.

Last year I bought a Jap Type 99 carbine that isn't real either.

I thought for sure you were going to say that you remembered shortening that rifle back in the day...
Nope. I only really worked on those that Bubba had gotten hold of. If it was milspec or even a nice conversion I left them alone. Even then I was very picky about what I did. That rifle looks nice like it is and if I am right about it being Peruvian I would not have messed with it.

Is 1963 stamped near the buttplate on the stock?
