Drove down to Denton TX to meet the wife's ex to return the Glock he had bought for our daughter. Lots of construction on I-35 especially coming north. Asked the ex for another route and he suggested 380 to 377 then north to I-35. Sounds reasonable right?

Did you know every highway in north Texas has construction going on? Trying to beat those harsh Texas blizzards I guess. Oh and Texas also assume everyone knows all the routes by heart. and does not bother with those sissy little marker signs. You know, like the one that says this is 377, turn here. Anyway what should have been a 6 hour trip at most turned into 11 hours of adventure driving. Left at 9 am and back at 8 pm. Spent a few hours as members of the fugawie tribe.

Yeah the wife and I went through that Sunday driving back from New Orleans. It seemed like once we got through Shreveport and was heading west towards Dallas, It was bumper to bumper. Then we hit I 35 north and we were sitting on the highway at a dead stop a few times. It was horrible.
I definitely feel for you. Glad you made it home safely.

Our son and grandkids live in Lewisville. Just a suburb of Denton and Dallas.
We are through there in the RV often and it's always a challenge with the construction. Once it's done, it should really ease the congestion.
It isn't cheap pulling the 5th wheel through the express toll road to get through Dallas but worth every dime it costs. We sail through the town watching the traffic jams on I-35 that runs along it.

When I got my license the joke was "Did you hear the sun is going to burn out in 2010? Do you know what that means?

They're going to have to finish I-35 in the dark. That was 40 years ago last March and they aren't done yet.
The version I heard was:
Have you seen those big lights in downtown OKC? ODOT heard that the sun is going to burn out in five billion years and they want to make sure they have enough light to finish the Broadway Extension.

Now going to make it 6 lane to the Windstar Casino. Still 4 lane beyond to the North.
Edit: with a new bridge across the Red River.
