I'll start. I think the fact that we are unable to have REAL dialogue without someone crying foul or countering with accusations of racism has undermined any true progress. I also believe that well-meaning liberals have done a great deal to damage the family structure in the African-American community. The refusal of government agencies to render assistance to Black families if a MALE was present in the household has done severe harm to the integrity of the family unit. We have 2-3 generations of young Black men who have grown up without fathers and have been denied the guidance and discipline that a father provides in a family unit. This is a tragedy.

I think you are correct JB. There are too many people who can't see anything other than skin color. I could care less what a person looks like we are all people. Some try and pull the race card if they don't get their way, maybe those people just think everyone owes them special treatment i don't know. I was raised to be respectful and treat people the way that they treat me.

The problem that I see is that most "races" blame the white guy for all their problems. I did not, nor did my family own slaves. I did not nor did my family persecute indians. Yet I am treated by many of those races that I did those things and for some reason I owe them something.

I have never been able to spell and my sentence structure sucks. My folks did try.

Truly one of the biggest problems is letting go of the past and moving forward.

I agree it was a tragic what happened and how slavery was addressed by our founding forefathers, however if the would have never suffered, then black people today wouldn't have the opportunities they have today.

Use your God Given talents and abilities to honor your ancestors sufferings and being a productive citizen.

Unfortunately, black people are some of the most racist people I know. And todays black people haven't suffered near what their ancestors did.

I think you are correct JB. Also those who try and pull the race card anytime they don't get exactly what they want are a real pain...

Here's the thing with "the race card." When there's one obvious difference, it's hard to look past that sometimes.

As a woman, I can tell you.... if I go into an auto parts store and the guy behind the counter treats me like I'm stupid and is a general obnoxious ass to me.... I will immediately assume it's because I'm a woman and he's sexist. It usually will not occur to me till later that he might just be an obnoxious ass and it had nothing to do with my two X chromosomes.

I think that same thing happens frequently with "the race card." Race is the obvious answer to why there's a problem and it's a lot easier to cry "racism!" than to look for a deeper problem

I honestly never considered race to be any kind of an issue until I saw the reverse in full force with affirmative action. I can remember in 1990, asking why a minority could get a full ride scholarship, while I got a few $$$ a year just because of skin color. I guess you could say it opened my eyes, and race became an issue.

To this day I hold those that claim racism against society a bit lower than anyone else!!! That is said as politely as I can muster!!

Most people don't even know the definition of racism. If you can't differentiate between racism, prejudice, and good ol' bigotry then you've got serious problems....

I think the greatest problem is those that cry foul, aren't really interested in fixing it. Its an easy out. Sure there is real racism, but those that carry it out aren't interested in fixing it either. So you're left with the middle that aren't really racist, and don't view every issue as racially motivated, that recognize the problem and want to fix it, but don't really have any control over it. It is an issue dominated by the fringe.
