I dont know if anyone else is like me in the fact that they may find themselves in question as to which rifle of 20 or so should i use for deer hunting this year. well Im a little adventurous and want to try some of my mil surplus rifles i.e.; mosin nagant, sks, ak-74, vz-24 mauser 8mm... BUT... oklahoma hunting regulations state that a .22 caliber centerfire rifle cannot have more than a 7 round magazine for deer hunting (ar-15, mini14) NOW HERES THE QUESTION IM DYING TO FIND AN ANSWER TO. if i want to take my ak-74 (5.45x39mm) deer hunting, IS IT CLASSIFIED AS A 22 caliber??? technically the 5.45mm is .21 or so but it does not have a civilian counter part that says it is a 22 caliber (that i know of) such as the 5.56 round is basically a .223 remington. only problem is, is i dont know where to find a 5 round mag for an ak74 any comments are welcome! ??

I would say that since it does not meet the .22 cal minimum that it would not be legal to hunt with. Just contact one of your local game wardens and ask him/her.

Also, it the game warden gives you the go ahead, you could take one of the 30 round mags and cut a piece of wood to place under the follower. Assuming that you can remove the mag base place or remove the follower from the top of the magazine. Cut the block of wood to a length that will allow the mag to hold 6 rounds or less. This is a similar concept to putting a plug in your shotgun for migratory seasons. This would make you legal.

From the hunting regulations book: Rifles: Centerfire rifles firing at least a 55-grain weight soft-nosed or hollow-point bullet and having an overall cartridge case length of 1 1/4 inches or longer (9mm rifles are not legal). Clips or magazines of all .22 caliber centerfire firearms may not be capable of holding more than seven rounds of ammunition."

By blocking the mag, this would make the rifle incapable of holding more than seven combined rounds

according to wikipedia the bullet diameter is .221 which would be legal as long as the bullet is a soft or hollow point weighing more than 55 grains.
Apex gun parts has wasr2 -5 round mags for $15
