Belongs to a friend who inherited it from his brother. He has no idea about make or caliber. I see some sort of proof mark (?) by the serial number. Appears to be sporting a vintage Zeiss scope. So what do we have here?

Probably a late-war Mauser. It's hard to tell if anything else has been done to it aside from the sights and swivel stud. That likely negates most collector value but it's hard to say what some people might be looking for. I'd do some research on the scope. That might be more valuable than the rifle...I don't know. It's worth looking into. Assuming it hasn't been rechambered I'd guess (from the few photos...so take with a grain of salt) value would be in the $300 - $350 range give or take.

Yep, late war Mauser 98K. Looks like someone did a good job converting it to a sporter, but it is also sad. They are kind of rare in full dress military and worth a lot more. I would agree with the $300 to $350 price range. As mentioned above, the scope may be worth more.
