I dunno, maybe. It is old, I'll tell you that. It came out of my great grandmother's house, and she passed back in the late 60's and not sure where she got it. It was just one of those items that has been bouncing around for a long-long time and no one in the family knew what it is. I somehow ended up with it bouncing around in my house

Oh - I just noticed, if you look at the end of the squeezey part where it comes together, it forms a square. So, like, maybe it holds some kind of tool thingy. It'd surely be light duty for sure.

Reminds me of an old pin vice for Cutting broaches for watchmakers

i believe it held a small piece of chalk used for marking cloth in sewing. kind of like an eversharp
