One poster mentioned Fredricksburg for Bar-B-Que, the town is about about 70 miles northwest of San Antonio up I-10, I had the opportunity to visit a great museum -- The National Museum of the Pacific War; its located at the boarding house(Nimitz Hotel) that Chester Nimitz grew up in; lots of great stuff; he is a link: http://www.pacificwarmuseum.org/Index.asp they have a hatch from the USS. Arizona; airplanes; they even have a HA 19, it was one of the midget submarines used in the attack on Pearl Harbor. It looks very small on the outside, but it is filled with great stuff. They also have a re-enactment of a Pacific battle ( we didn't have time to see this). To me it was well worth the stop.
