I just saw another vintage Seiko yesterday online when I was digging around. Made for race car drivers. The 12:00 marker and chrono buttons were rotated over to the 3:00 position (inline with the band) so they'd be up when your hands were on the steering wheel. The Tachymeter is very correct.
Flew a lot back in the day. Some of the airplanes would have an indicator that showed air speed.
If we were traveling over an area like Oklahoma where everything is laid out in 1 mile squares, I could pick out a speck of dust on the window, start the Tachymeter, and stop it when the speck crossed the mile line.
Look up at the speed indicator and it matched very closely.
