If I went to a deer camp and had a guy like that with sticky fingers, I would make sure to find out what he is generally shooting, then load up some dummy rounds, and leave them out for him!We had a guy in deer camp that would pick up ammo, not matter where it was.
I had just returned to camp, unloaded my 7 Rem Mag and laid the cartridges on my tailgate. I watched him pick up my shells, as I put my rifle in the truck.
He glanced at the headstamps, "what in the h*** are you shooting?"
"The Ruger Universal Magnum."
He laid the shells back in the back on the tailgate, "make sure I never get any shells from you!"
The headstamps were:
.257 Wthby Mag
.270 Wthby Mag
.300 Win Mag
.300 Wthby Mag
.338 Win Mag
.
Maybe he get lucky and have one in the chamber and a record book buck come out and stand there for him and he pull the trigger to a "CLICK"!
