I think the majority of her stuff was written before 1949.
She was born in 1889 and lived until 1971
And, if a White person said that exact, same thing about a targeted minority, he'd been castigated as a racist.

I worked with a 20-something, pot head, agnostic, socialist that loved to confront, argue, and try to belittle everyone that thought different.
After a couple of discussions, that I walked away from. I would generally walk away anytime he was around.
One day, he walked up and tried to goad me into a discussion. I looked at him and turned to leave. He made a comment about me not willing to have an open discussion. I told him, "arguing with an idiot or a fence post, yields the same result, total waste of time, neither are listening or going to change."
Few would talk to him, he found other employment, a few months after.
