Those have never looked right to me. Saw a bunch of them being carried by non U.S. forces while assigned to Southern Command area during the early to mid 90's. Never figured out why they did that, added too much weight to the rifles and the hand guards would warp and split a lot.

I wonder how many mags at full auto it would take to cause wood handguards to burst into flames? There's a video in the Interwebz of someone doing that with both an AK and an M4 if I remember correctly.

Looks so much better than all of the ones floating around with the obnoxious "tactical" rails and plastic parts. I think wood and metal is the best looking combo for almost all firearms. If I get another AR, I'll definitely go that route.
