I'm pretty sure that's the original rear sight for a saddle ring carbine of that era. The front sight blade on those were shorter lengthwise - the letters and/or symbols stamped on that sight blade make me think it was probably cut from a brass tag or token of some kind. It is taller in an attempt to lower the point of impact when using the sight folded down for the little buckhorn sight. The saddle ring has been removed - most of the SRC rifles that I see that saw a lot of service are like that. The ring was really not functional and just flopped around & made noise.
