I always found it ironic that the Romans killed Christ (according to plan), fed Christians to lions, then converted and became the foundation for Christianity as it is today. Don't hate the Romans. Be thankful for them. Without the Empire, I dare say Christianity would not have spread throughout the world and may have been lost among all the other mediterainian religions, regardless if Jesus was or was not the son of God.

Great movie! I watched in the theatre with the wifey. I felt so many different emotions during the movie.....Extreme anger that they treated MY Lord that way and sadness at the same time that he had to endure that, for me...... I pray I NEVER take that for granted. God is good!

The Jews couldn't sentence anyone - so they had the Romans do it. In Reality we all killed Jesus. That is why that is Mel Gibson's hand hammering the nail into Jesus hand in the movie. He wanted to show we all are at fault. Without the fall there would be no need for the sacrifice -

They had the Romans do it since Palestine was conquered by Rome decades before Jesus was born.

I'm sure you've all heard of the Battle of Masada... the battle that Magpul named their rifle after, but was changed to ACR when Bushmaster and Remington took over production. It was also an important siege in which the defenders killed eachother instead of allowing themselves to be captured.

The nails went into the wrists, which won't tear out as hands would. Also, there is a nerve junction where they put the nails that results in pain many times more horrible than a nail through the palm. Not sure why Gibson chose to ignore that. Maybe he didn't want to run into the wave of criticism it would have created. CB

I sorta knew what the Romans were capable of forensicly speaking...

Agreed, as a collector of Roman coins, I know enough about their culture to know that human life meant nothing to them, extreme pain and suffering didn't either.

They actually didn't do anything to Christ that they didn't do to hundreds or thousands of people every day across the Roman empire as part of daily business. In fact history basically states that Jesus was put on a rush order to get it over "quickly" to prevent his becoming a martyr.

The difference is the fact that Jesus went to it willingly for the sake of mankind.

Your pastor sounds like a scholar. The movie is no where near what Christ actually went through. I watched it for the first time Saturday night. I think if I would watch it each time I am tempted to sin I think I would sin less.

He is goofy sometimes but well educated and has a Dr. He also made a point that alot more people might be saved and hear the good word if they knew how it actually went - It's good to have faith, but also nice to be able to show facts to others.

You are exactly right on the money. It seems like alot have thought it was through the hands which won't even support the bodies weight. Their was even some nut on tv a couple of years ago trying to show how he thought it was possible by rigging up some leather straps and hanging from a cross in his garage. The details are definitely interesting but it is the end result that I hope I can stay focused on.
