I'm sorry to see Venables go, BUT, I can't say thatI blame him. He has been DC at OU for how long? Now Stoops is going to bring brother Mike back and make him CO-DC. Bad taste if you ask me. I mean I get the whole "If it is better for the team" thing, but that would have felt like a slap in the face to me. Venables will do well at Clemson.

I wish Brent the best at his new post. He was in a no win situation because if the defense got tons better, Mike would get the credit. I think he is a good coach, but the D has not been great the last few years so it may be a win-win for all. I think we will miss him more as a recruiter than a DC.

Just playin devil's advocate here, but is it possible Brent had been contacted about this job before Mike was brought on board? I consider that a possibility. I guess it's just my nature to look for a bright side, and hope there's no bad blood.

Possible, but I would say bringing Mike back was the nail in the coffin.

I've been calling this shot since the day AZ sent Mike Stoops down the road and I give Venables credit for enough brains to see the writing on the wall. I'm just surprised it took this long to pull a deal together and call the moving vans.

I heard his salary was going to be huge, like upwards of $750k, if true then I highly doubt it had to do with hurt feelings, and I would imagine knowing how long all of these guys knew each other instead of calling it bad taste, was it possibly one of those, "hey Brent, our D has been down for a while so since Mike is free we are going to bring him back as a position coach and Co-D coordinator and see if it gets us back to where we were before" and was really ok with Brent? Not claiming to know anything, just possibilities...either way hope he does well and of course hope OU sees some awesome D this year!
