I'd be driving from Tulsa on 51. Looking at this map..

http://www.wildlifedepartment.com/maps/Fort Gibson PHA.pdf

... where might the spots be for trying to call coyotes?

I've never been there. Are there places to park? Park on the side of the road?

I've got a place to hunt in Seminole but that's a three hour drive both ways and it gets old.

thanx

There are places to park on the north side of SH51, just west of Taylor's Ferry. However, be on the lookout for drunken idiots. If you have nice guns, the local cops can also be a pain to deal with sometimes.

I haven't seen many signs of life besides beer bottles, beer cans, and discarded meth labs in the Fort Gibson WMA, but I haven't spent much time there in the last few years.

Deep Fork WMA might be a better option, or maybe Skiatook/Keystone/Candy Creek. You might also look into the WMAs out in Osage county.

Ft Gibson gets hit hard, and lot of dam road hunters.

This is true. You might try Cherokee or the camp Gruber side. There are special restrictions on Gruber and I'm not familiar with what all you have to do. Cherokee is really big and has quite a few coyotes but also gets pressured a bit.

I sometimes wonder if our peers on here just make crap up to keep us off of the honey holes. Just kidding...

Be sure and stay clear of Heyburn. That place is like WWIII year round. Lots of drug dealers there too.

Ive deer hunted Gibson hard the last 3 years with decent success. don't waste your time during gun season. Never feared for my safety or had any trouble with anybody out there. Hunted it for coyotes a couple of times this season with no success. The yotes are there though, saw 5 while turkey hunting this year and a bunch every deer season.

All kidding aside. Nemesis, if you want to feel alive, go out to a WMA during gun season. Wait for the sun to come up. Awe in the field of orange and start praying that you don't get caught in the cross-fire. I will be on public land for bow season but you have to be a special kind of stupid to sit twice for gun season. I'll try anything once.
