Yes, if I had a bad spidey sense about this guy in Texas I would call the local PD and give them the details (especially if he's made comments about threatening a cop or a human LOL). Heck, he might already be under investigation for something else or at least be on their radar and this could be a useful piece of info.

If the local PD chooses to do nothing about it and nothing happens? Well then at least I tried.

I'm not sure why you are hung up on whether or not anything will be done....that part isn't within your span of control. Passing the info on IS in your span of control.

So, divorce situation that precludes the second party from having a gun.
Obviously you are close enough to this to know said details.
Either contact the ATF. Or just get off the pot and mind your own business.

Passing the info on when it is an actionable offense will be done.
The problem is the harm it could do in the mean time if there is nothing for the police to act on.
Police are not around 100% of the time and unfortunately they cannot stop a "future crime" until something has happened.

I know that he has had at least one domestic run in with the police, but I also know that they did nothing, even with witnessed threats of bodily harm.
It was a "he said/she said" situation and they couldn't do anything.

Illegal possession of a handgun is something that they CAN act on.
Only question is "will they".

I've heard alot from "armchair lawyers" and others.
I've noticed that not a single person who is actual Law Enforcement has said anything.
I think that speaks volumes to all who think something can be done BEFORE the crime has been committed.

whoa dude, you brought this to us and asked for opinions. What did you expect?

If you have first hand knowledge of a threat of serious bodily harm against someone then say something, or dont. What you shouldnt do is drop a half explained scenario which you have a personal stake in, at the doorstep of the interweb, and then become indignant at the response. Threads like this make me want to punch a baby.

It really sounds like you already have your mind made up as to what you should do, and have come here wanting affirmation of your decision. Just like the guy who asks for "advice" about gun decision when he has already made the purchase.

That's the thing...are you qualified to decide what is "actionable"? You have, at least, information related to a conspiracy to commit a crime...When we are talking about threats to human life, I'd rather pass that info on instead of waiting for something to happen. It's pretty much too late at that point.

I wonder how many kids would be alive today if someone acted on knowledge of what someone was "talking about doing" regarding school shootings or mass shootings in general. They always seem to find someone who had knowledge of something not being right beforehand.

Yeah...besides, I don't know what you keep thinking - will they do anything!
Are you freaking kidding? It's illegal to even think about committing a crime.
Ever heard of a Thought Crime? Get over it, hero.
Obviously, you know a LOT more than you are sharing here...you definitely already know there is enough evidence here.
