I wouldn't worry too much. Any custom rifle built with Bartlein, Krieger, Benchmark, etc by a quality builder will probably out shoot the shooter.

Fewer shooters build on Benchmark, why, because the pros shoot Bartlein. Will a Benchmark shoot great? Yes.

Surgeon Rifles are well established in the Precision Rifle Series and if they don't build on Benchmark barrels it's because they have a reputation to uphold.

Although I don't know the facts I'm sure many of the "pros" are running custom (Surgeon, Stiller, Deviant, Bighorn) actions as well. Will a Remington, Winchester, Howa, Tika, or Savage action shoot great after after being worked over by a custom builder? You bet. It's just with some of those actions you don't get as much after market support.

I built my rifle on a Winchester action with Bartlein barrel. Why, because I couldn't afford a custom action and GA Precision had a barrel in stock and that's what George, the owner recommended. I also believe the Winchester action is superior to a Remington.

Also, those who shoot in the PRS final are generally going to be sponsored by several companies. This allows access to gear and great prices if not free. Not everything these guys have is by choice either.

I envy you, you'll have a work of "deadly" art. Post pics when you get it.

Well dang, I have a rifle build going with a Krieger barrel.

I was going that route until bj and a few other guys I respect said to go the benchmark route. BJ says they shoot as good or better and clean easily. And are cheaper. One of the few times I went to gene sears with something in mind and they talked me into a cheaper option. Normally it's the other way around.

I definitely will post pics. We just started the build so it'll be 3-4 months or so. I will say this, so far working with Jon has been my pleasure. I wish he built 1911's too.. I'm looking to build another custom gun. I want olyeller to build me a single stack but I'm not sure if he's into that..or just the competition stuff.

If you think BJ is a nice caring guy that would not steer you in the wrong direction then think again... Just left there yesterday after he talked me into spending $1050... The time before that $2000. The time before that $1500.... Can you see what he does to people!!!!

You really cannot beat the service and inventory of Gene Sears... BJ, Adam, Steve to name a few are very helpful people. I really hate them and their store for being so convenient...

That was my point lol. Normally they talk me into spending a lot more than I intended.

This honestly isn't too surprising. I bet you after a year or so the top won't be Bartlein anymore either. This reminds me of racing very much. Once one person hits on a winning combination and is noticeably successful, everybody's gotta have all the things the successful person does. The only problem, of course, is that it's the sum of all parts, shooter (or driver) included. So even having all the stuff doesn't even come close to guaranteeing success.
