Front grip on AR pistol?

I haven't been paying real close attention to gun stuff lately but is this still illegal without a tax stamp?

From what I have researched...yes.

That's what I thought. This was an episode of the First 48 Hours where the homicide detectives were referring to this as a "rifle." It had been used in attempted self defense by someone who was with someone that was ultimately a homicide victim.

In that configuration it's a Title 2 AOW (any other weapon) not a rifle or pistol.

Pretty sure that is considered an AOW.

Thanks everyone for the replies! It was very interesting to see a homicide detective holding up an illegal weapon and making no mention of that fact. This was the "good guy's" weapon, so I hope his ignorance didn't get him in trouble eventually.

Correct me if I'm wrong but can't you use a Magpul Angled Foregrip and be okay?

Angled foregrips are legal on AR pistols without a stamp. Vertical foregrips are not.
