I know if old John Browning had met Gaston and went with double stacks in his 1911s, he would have had something to compare to Gastons creation!

Yeah, he would have invented the fattest grip known to mankind,,,
Suitable only for those with sasquatch hands.

I can't remember who made it but a friends father had one
But back in the early 80's I got to shoot A double-stack 1911 in 45 ACP.

Now I thought the Beretta 92 had a fat ass,,,
This 1911 had an ass like Mama Cass.

Totally unwieldy for someone like me.

The weak link in Semi-Auto pistols,,,
Is the magazines,,,
IMHO.

I'm currently in search of a few mags for a discontinued Taurus 25-PLY pistol,,,
Should the 2 mags I have now become defective for some reason,,,
My beloved little mouse gun becomes a single shot.

With it's tip-up barrel it's easier to load than other semi's,,,
But it's still a single-shot none-the-less.

I have a buddy with a beautiful vintage Beretta .22 pistol,,,
He inherited it from his grandmothers sock drawer,,,
Unfortunately he didn't find the magazine.

He finally found a well worn replacement on eBay,,,
But he had to pay a small fortune for it.

At my age I probably won't be buying anymore pistols of any type,,,
But if I were to buy another semi-auto,,,
I'll make sure I have 5 total mags,,,
A least five if not more.

Anyone else in the same situation as I find myself in,,,
On a hunt for an elusive magazine?

Without a doubt the weakest link with my pistols is the nut behind the trigger....

Certainly a magazine could be designed poorly but my guess is that this issue would be rare. The shape of the follower not allowing a proper exit angle of the round would be a problem. A more frequent issue could be poor fabrication of the feed lips or the spring. And due to use the spring can wear and need replacement. Mis shaped feed lips will do many things and none of them are good for proper functioning of the magazine.
I buy magazine springs from Wolff Springs but there are lots of places to get them and they are inexpensive. I’d replace the springs for sure. And make sure the spring and follower move freely. Unless you’re really talented with thin sheet metal I suggest leaving the feed lips alone. I have various metal dies for shaping magazine feed lips but unfortunately not one for your pistol.

Try finding one, at least in a decent price range, for an almost 100 year old Colt pre-Woodsman. People want half as much as I paid for the gun, for one magazine. And my poor High Standard 22, they made so many different models I don't know which one is which LOL

I have an AMT automag in .22 magnum. The magazine is the issue for the FTF issues.
I found a site called vintage magazines.com that had a clone replacement in stock. It won't even load as its a tad too wide. I could do a little filing to make it fit probably, but not going to happen.
It sits all lonely in the safe now.

I have plenty mags for everything. Lost count of the mags I have modded to fit guns I couldn't get mags for...
Much like car parts, I suspect the gun mfg asks the mag mfg for something that fits certain size dimensions.
The only real oddball is the G36. It is definitely neither single nor double stack. I haven't tried to figure if it has any real benefit to capacity, but it certainly is easier inserting than 1911 mags.
As for Glock mags being the ultimate end...hell no! There are certainly Mec-Gar mags that are just as reliable, yet have better capacity.

I had a Glock 36 for awhile. It was kinda like the Glock 43 mags...not single stack, nor double stack. I called em a stack and a half.
