Grendel at the range today.

Took my problem child Grendel to the range again today. I think Im finally figuring out what this thing likes. I was using Varget today and fully expected to get way too low a FPS for what I want to do with it but I had it on the shelf and my gun simply wont run on AR Comp and CFE 223 is too temperature sensitive for my tastes. But it surprised me and I may stick with Varget and just tinker with other powders to see if I can get it to shoot good and get more speed. I realize these are only 3 shot groups but I was trying to save bullets and powder and I will go back and shoot the good groups again using 5 shot groups just to verify.

100 yards. Not enough wind to mention. It was early this morning. The last one that only has 1 hole was getting too hot even for me to shoot.

The paint is gone now. It worked with the handguard and scope that was on it before but i stripped it for this gun.

What are you going to do to it? You've done some very nice paint so I hope you go nuts with this one.

I'd say that's looking pretty good! I would play with charge weight a little more, up and down, and see what I got. Do you have a chrono? I certainly wouldn't give up on Varget without some more experimentation and, preferably, some chrono'd velocities. I don't have a chrono myself. I have got to fix that one of these days!

Im not sure yet. Im going to make it into a sidecharge and build a whole other nicer lower for it when i can afford it. Then I plan on painting it something crazy but not bright. Im still goung to hunt with it.
