Lincoln County, MS – A man was killed after he committed a bizarre series of home invasions and tried to run someone over with a car in Lincoln County overnight.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said it received the first 911 call at about 4 a.m. on July 19 about a man who had entered a home and started threatening the residents in it, WLBT reported.
Deputies responded to the scene, but the suspect had already left.
While they were still at the residence, sheriff’s deputies received a call about a man who was breaking into another residence nearby the first home invasion, WLBT reported.
Sheriff’s deputies raced to that address and found two people who had been assaulted by the suspect.
Officials said deputies also found another neighbor who had been attacked by the suspect.
Authorities said the suspect had already fled the scene again before the deputies arrived, WLBT reported.
Deputies were still on the scene and interviewing the victims of the assaults when they received yet another 911 call about someone attempting to breaking into another home nearby.
They responded quickly to the residence and as they arrived, they heard a gunshot from another house nearby, WLBT reported.
It turned out that the suspect had tried to run over a homeowner with a car.
The homeowner whom he was threatening had shot him, according to the sheriff’s department.
The suspect was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead, according to WLBT.
Investigators quickly surmised that the suspect had been involved in all of the reported disturbances in the area overnight.
Two of the victims were transported to the hospital and treated for injuries sustained in the home invasions, WLBT reported.
Authorities said the homeowner who fatally shot the suspect has not been charged with a crime for his role in the incident.
