Have a couple of Benchmade Infidel’s. Very nice action. Feels good in the hand. Top quality like all their products.
Get what you pay for. Benchmade make a couple that are really nice, Infidel and Autocrat. There are other manufacturers that make really nice OTF’s also. If you buy a Ford Escort and expect Mustang GT 500 performance out of it, your going to be disappointed.Speaking of military issue, I was issued one of these Gerber autos and multi tools back in my summer vacation to Afghanistan 2010. Loved both, only have the multitool anymore. The Auto might be floating around somewhere, but I’ve gone through 3, with people deciding they want them more than I apparently do.I’ve lost the desire to buy another one just to lose it too. Good tools though. View attachment 296436View attachment 296437
I’ve always been back and forth on OTF knives. I think they’re cool, and convenient, but I’ve always been concerned about reliability and durability. I remember back when I was working as a dog catcher my coworker picked up a cheap OTF somewhere, maybe at Sams surplus or that place that used to be off 10th and may. Anyways, it was kinda crappy, after a week or two the lock started to engage or disengage when it wanted to. My buddy had sharpened that thing up to where you could get a real close shave with it. So one day we were standing there talking, and we heard the knife actuate in his pocket. He goes really pale and doesnt move, and asks “I need you to look and see if there’s blood running down my leg, my knife just went off and I’m afraid its in my leg”. Luckily, when I looked down the blade had made a perfect slice out of his pocket and leg of his pants and was just hanging there in the wind, handle still in his pocket. Haven’t really wanted an OTF bad enough to pay for one since then.
