I am old enough to remember full-service and self-service at the gas station, heck I even worked at an Amoco that offered both. But remember, when that transition was coming through, self-service was at a discounted price.
Heck, back when I worked at gas stations they hadn't even considered self-serve, they were all full-service. I remember fighting with the other guys to wash the windows every time a hot chick pulled up to the pumps. Bragging rights went to any of us who washed the windows of those wearing short skirts. Funny how the drivers side of the windshield always required extra attention...

I'm the one that always has a problem at checkout. They have to come over and fix it. LOL
Have you come across the new self checkout where a scale is set up to weigh the bag every time you scan something and drop it into the bag? Talk about a pain in the butt! They have them at the Reasor's by us and apparently they still have a few bugs to work out because the one, and only time, I used them I had to call for help several times and I only had a few items. Apparently it didn't like it when I changed bags or maybe the way I was placing the item in the bag, who knows. All I know was it kept locking up and showing a message to call for assistance.

I'd rather do self check out than have some slow meth head that thinks they should get at least $15 an hour taking my money.
I've yet to see a meth head work the cash registers or any other job for that matter. The few people I usually see working the cash registers are retirees (or students) trying to make ends meet. Unless they have a crazy long line I will always go to them in hopes that it provides some job security whether it's a student working maybe their first job or a retiree trying to put food on their table.

What's fun is buying a bolt, flat washer, lock washer and nut. 4 individual lookups.

But that's still better than the old laminated sheets they'd try to match up to.

Isn't it funny to see how our society has created these opposing 'standards' for how another person lives their life?

We don't want to reward someone for working a job if they might have a substance abuse problem. But we also demonize people for not working.

Good point. I guess my frustration is those who think they should get $15 an hour to stand there and scan items across a reader. Companies are implementing self checkout because they can't find enough people to actually come to work or work when they do show up. I'm sure there are some good people as well.

If a company wants better workers it can pay more to attract and retain them.
