Can someone get this thread title changed.

It should be called. "life on the streets."

Seriously who changed the title?

I bought an M9 after being issued one in the Navy. It is perfect in every way other than CCW and that was never it's purpose. If you are talking about combat reliability the only gun I have ever seen to compete is the 1911, another Mil spec.

I can bury headshots at 25yds with my Italian Beretta M92 consistently, and 15 rounds on tap is great. But i think any combat pistol with an external safety is a bad idea. I think the worst thing you can do in a combat situation is pull a hunk of metal(at least thats what it will amount to) with the safety on. I prefer my M&P 45 or my Smith J frame. If asked to pick a pistol for combat Id say a any of the major names will do just fine, just get rid of the external safety...

The modern "safe action" pistols are great, but I think you're making too much ado about external safeties. Train for the equipment you use, and you won't have a problem. Witness 70+ years of US military dependence on the 1911 platform.
