83' Nissan pickup
Same here. Dad pulled into the power lines and got out. He locked the hubs then told me to move over into the drivers seat and said "Don't get me stuck." That was the first time I ever drove a stick. Just a year or so ago I sold my 6 speed manual Superduty but 'm still driving an 86 Toyota pickup.

This is not about the first stick shift I drove, but about the stick shift I teach all my grandkids to drive as soon as they can reach the pedals. I have nine grandkids and so far four have learned to drive a stick shift with this old pickup. I have one that is 10 and foaming at the mouth to drive the old pickup- perhaps he can this summer?

They love running around the property and up and down the country roads. Fortunately it is so remote the sheriff’s dept. rarely comes out that way. Plus being that it’s New Mexico they are pretty laid back. Haven’t tagged for years.

This is a 1976 Ford Courier with a Mazda four cylinder with four on the floor. It looks pretty rough, but the engine purrs.

The kids have banged into a few things (a tree or two). The body is a whole lot stouter than today’s vehicles,so the mishaps haven’t even put a dent in the ole girl.

Anyhow the kids have a bunch of fun and if they decide to become car thieves, at least they will be able steal one with a clutch! :)

My dad had a 73 Chevy Luv pickup when I learned to drive.

Our driveway was flat at a point and you could park a car on that part. Because he left first in the morning, the luv was always in the back and parked on a steep grade. It was difficult to hold the truck on the hill getting into the driveway without getting too close to the other cars.

Fortunately, we lived across from a HS and learned to drive in the parking lots there and down at the fairgrounds where there was plenty of room.

I bought a 1995 Jeep Wrangler when I turned 15. It was 4 cylinder, 5 speed and went though almost all the mud holes I put it though.
It now belongs to another high school kid and I hope he’s having just as much fun with it.

Dads business had a 4 speed 2 ton Ford dumptruck and I was driving on the streets of Tulsa at around 15-16 yrs old. Yeah, the kind of truck you have to use door mirrors because you can't see through the bed.
Didn't get a drivers license until 17, didn't need one I thought
Took my Drivers test in a Ford 1ton crew cab with full length bed.
Examiner in Jenks took one look at me and the truck and laughed out loud, said let's go parrallel park first thing.
I backed it right in first try, he said in disbelief, "you're done".

My first car was the one I learned to drive with,,,
1968 Plymouth Road Runner,,,
Four on the Floor.

I worked three years to buy that car,,,
Mom and Dan said they would match any money I saved.

Pop told me many years later,,,
They thought I would maybe have a couple hundred dollars.

I had close to 2-Grand,,,
The car was $2,810.00 new/out the door.
Pop had to take a loan to come up with their part.

Imagine the lunacy of my parents though,,,
Turning a 16 year old kid loose with 365 HP of Pure Detroit Muscle.
