I'm hoping that The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center will purchase their facility, tools and equipment. We're worn out from traveling to Houston many times since November however, that's our choice and bottom line is my wife is cancer free.
I use MD Anderson as well. Long drive. Praying for you

So, where's a good cancer center somewhere local for treatment? If you had to have a choice and were in northeast Oklahoma, would you pick somewhere in Tulsa or northwest Arkansas.

I think I would use one of the Cancer chat sites. These people have their own skin in the game and not influenced by stipends provided to doctors for referrals.
Oklahoma Cancer Society I think is still active. Chat with someone that learned the hard way. I use OKC and have used MD Anderson but MD is just not feasible for me because of distance. I would say your own Dr. but to be honest, they are cut in the deal. It's your life. Be the biggest prick on the planet if you have to. Ask those that went in blind and made the wrong choices before they found a good place.
You will make the right decision.

Great and I just got back from losing my right lung to cancer. Guess I need to find a good Vet for the other one when it goes......wait.....that will be too late.
I'm familiar with that Cancer center. I took my best friend for life to all his treatments there. This is what I know about them. My buddy had good insurance and fortunately he had done well financially. Before they even looked at you, with great insurance, he had to give them a check for over a grand. People at the admitting desk were rude but nothing close to his cancer Doctor. My pal had been through a few treatments and was getting Chemo brain and his wife ask me to get a few questions she had answered. They just blew her off when she tried to call or went to see the Cancer Dr. with her husband. After his treatment (insurance says the Dr. has to see his patients x amount of time or he would never had came in) the Dr. came in got on his computer so he could verify his presence to bill more. This little runt would be the one you would love to make you own private hand puppet. I had a list and every time I asked a question, he ignored me. Finally, without asking how my buddy was doing he jumped up from the computer and was heading out. He got about a step past me when I grabbed his pretty white coat and jerked him back to me. He asked me "what the hell I thought I was doing (something only a person who has people that will take care of him would say) and I said in the next few minutes he's going to sit his ass down and answer each question I ask and I don't give a **** if this ends up with me in Jail and him wishing he had done what I said". At this point I was done. I jerked him to a seat and started asking the questions and he acted like a smart ass with his first answer. I made it clear we would be through with the questions soon and he will treat me and my friend with the dignity I SAY we deserve and he'll wish he did. By this time I had figured I was going to jail anyway. Got through the questions and before I let him go, I whispered in his ear that I have no problem with whatever he chooses to do when he leaves just like I have no problem in what I do now or when I leave. (that part was not smart.)
Anyway, the Tulsa Cancer treatment center is a crap hole with crap hole Dr.s who I hope are sued to the point they become male prostitutes.

Man I hate doctors like that. "We know everything and you do not have the right to question us" seems to be the mindset of to many over paid punks.

You sir are right but so many of us think "Don't make him mad" because we think he won't try to make us well.
I've just got too much hillbilly in me still. Doctor or tire salesman. Everyone is the same and a dirt bag is a dirt bag and should be reminded of that.

Yea it was only a minor thing compared to cancer but I told off one of my docs while in OU hospital. They were giving me large doses of Lasix to bring the swelling down, had me hooked up to all kinds of monitors and then took out the catheter. They expected me to be able to lower the head of my bed so that I could roll on my side and grab the urinal before the Lasix kicked in. Did not work that way. I told them either put the cath back in or I was not taking the Lasix. Docs were pissed I dared question their orders but I stuck to my guns and they put the cath back in. Having a catheter sucks but I am to damn old to pee the bed and wait on some pretty little nurse to come clean me up.

Once they took all the monitors off so I that just had an O2 tube I started walking to the restroom. That pissed off the nurses but I only fell once.

Good for you sir. I was on the board of directors of a small hospital for over 20 years. The one thing that would make me lose it was a Dr., RN, DON or any other staff not treating each and every patient like their job depended on it. Because it did. Dr's, of course, have you over a barrel and know it. Ours also knew I was young and happy enough to slap the holy **** out of them away from the hospital and accept the consequences. It never happened but it was enough that they knew I would.
We as patients don't understand that we have the power to make their life a living hell. A complaint filed at their particular licensing board can cost them their jobs and make them uninsurable (same thing) We all hear about patient rights but we never read them. Next time a nurse or Dr. gives you crap, ask for their info and want the patient advocate to come see you ASAP. You may even hear them pass a bit of gas before they crap themselves.
