What is it with some people today... society seems to be losing its ever lov'in mind. The value of a human life is meaningless to some people. You can get yourself killed for virtually no reason at all. You not only have to worry about adults harming you, now days you have to worry about teenagers too.

A 12 yr old girl has been killed by 2 teenage boys [15 & 17] for her BMX bicycle's parts. Their mother figured out what they had done & notified police. Don't you know that was hard for her to deal with emotionally!

I use to mock those parents that put long dog leashes on their little kids in stores, but not anymore. If I had a kid today, I think I'd have to have one of those GPS trackable devices that he / she would have to wear hidden on their clothes, every time they left the house. Or one that sounded a alarm if they get very far from the base unit.

It is a long article, but here is the basics... one odd thing that caught my eye was that there was a 19 yr old male trading for some of the girls bicycle parts... you would think a 19 yr old young man would be more interested in a car [or something else] other than bicycle parts.

New Jersey authorities say girl was strangled by teen brothers for parts of her BMX bike

Published October 24, 2012
Associated Press

A teenage boy lured a 12-year-old girl into his house under the guise of getting parts for her treasured bicycle and then, with his older brother, killed her, police said Tuesday. The girl's disappearance had sparked a frantic search by residents of her small town until a tip from the boys' mother led police to her body, stuffed into a home recycling bin.

The boys, ages 15 and 17, were charged with murdering Autumn Pasquale, who disappeared while riding her BMX bike Saturday, a little more than a week before what would have been her 13th birthday. She appeared to have been strangled, Gloucester County prosecutor Sean Dalton said at a late-day news conference.

The boys' mother had come forward with information about a posting on a son's Facebook account, Dalton said. He wouldn't say what was on the website or discuss a possible motive for the killing, but said there was no sign of sexual assault.

Autumn was lured to the house, where they apparently lived with their mother and stepfather, for the purpose of getting parts for her treasured BMX bike, which she rode frequently and talked about on her Facebook pages.

Both brothers were charged with counts including first-degree murder, body disposal and tampering with evidence. The 15-year-old was also charged with luring.

So close to being a teenager. This is beyond disgusting. It's bad enough that they did this over bicycle parts, but is it weird that I feel even worse for the girl knowing that this was a bike that she apparently loved? Ultimate slap in the face, as if the situation wasn't bad enough already.

I was in Detroit in 2001 on a job and there was a report of an entire family that got off at the wrong exit, some gang weiners decided they liked the wheels on their SUV and killed the entire family. I tried looking it up on Google but too many stories that have Detroit, murder, and wheels in them...go figure.

If any of us, for just one day, could see all the violence and hurt in this world, our head would explode. This is--and has always been--a danderous, hateful world. We are shielded from so much.

Now, I'm going to go hug my family.

no me it's another sign of how the young people in our country think they're entitled to whatever they want, and don't think about consequences. Did they not think about what they would do with this poor girls body after they killed her? Its just so sad. Life is priceless.

To be fair, she doesn't appear to have been killed for her bicycle parts.

It said she was lured to the house with bike parts (she apparently really loved her bike), but that a motive for the killing wasn't known yet.

Horrific and tragic none the less.

As a parent with kids around that age, it is tough to exercise judgment about how much freedom to give them. I grew up in the apparently carefree-70s, when my parents didn't care where I was all day so long as I was home by dinner time. I have tried to adopt some of that 'free range kids' philosophy with my kids, as I believe the freedom helps them become better decisionmakers.

Stories like this make me reconsider that.
