I'm not one who believes in reparations for past wrongs, but this topic is one of the reasons I roll my eyes at all of the "Nazi" comments all over message boards, while many of those same smug people wave their flags in unapologetic patriotism.

Germany never named a town, county, or state park after any of it's WWII generals suspected of crimes against humanity. We sure did.

See, In my opinion right after the civil war the U.S. Goverment and military was no better than the nazi's. Genocide is what they both wanted, extermination of a race of people. Being as i'm half cherokee it makes my blood boil to read about the atrocities committed against the native americans.

CJ, you do realize that to sing the Horst Wessel Song, to sing the first two stanzas of Deutschland, Deutschland Uber Alles, or to give the "Hitler" salute is punishable by hefty prison sentences in Germany and Austria. Even other European countries have similar laws.

Well aware of it. I listen to a lot of German rock (helps to learn the language - and some of their stuff is good!), and some bands write nationalist music - and have to have government permission to do so. It's my understanding that it ain't easy to get the government's blessing for it, either. Toby Kieth's career would be doomed if he was a German. Even German websites with pictures of WWII vets on it has much of their uniform insignia blurred out. Asinine if you ask me, but it is what it is.

And yes, Indians get some forms of reparations, but to me most of it is perks given to mostly White people with very little Indian blood (those folks I like to call "pretendians"). Nothing like the offenders getting the spoils. As for the Blacks, they did get shafted - but at least they escaped Lincoln's plan to send them all back to Africa.

Any honest study of wars will reveal that the victors do indeed write the history.

Indian wars. January 1, 1817, through December 31, 1898, inclusive. Service must have been rendered with the United States military forces against Indian tribes or nations.

Wounded Knee was a war crime. Call me a bleeding heart, but Native Americans were regularly discriminated against. The US Government took Indian children and prevented them from speaking their native languages. Hemmed the people into reservations and basically broke most every treaty they signed. They way Native Americans were treated is a stain on our national honor. Yet, they volunteered in droves in World War I, World War II, and Viet Nam to fight for America. Nobody gave a damn about them until the casinos came around and the blood suckers and parasites emerged to con and screw the Tribes.

And FYI Whitey, I have represented several Lakota Souix families for wrecks. One little old lady, who wouldn't speak much gave me a Souix name. I don't know how to spell it correctly, but transliterated it was oh-ga meesue chepa. It means "fat bear.".

GForce89 - your statement that "Indians get reparations each month in the form of a check" is totally false.

Cedar Creek
I know plenty of native families up here and seen the checks with my own 2 eyes brother. It is not technically called reparations but a trust responsibility. The government collects money and then re distributes the money back to the tribes and the natives aka the trustees. Not all tribes are a part of this though so if you are apart of a tribe or know people that are that tribe might not be in on the deal. Just like part of the casino's revenue is distributed out to enrolled members of the tribe. I know all this because my dad's best friend may he rip was a full blood and was a council member of his tribe. The money he and his family received put all his kids through college.

At one time the Osage tribe were the wealthiest people in the world, per capita.
Their money came from head rights, and oil.
Phillips Petroleum discovered the Burbank oil field on Osage tribal land. By treaty, the Osage tribe owns all mineral rights in Osage county. Phillips produced the oil, giving a percentage to the tribe, which was distributed to tribal members according to your ethnic purity, and standing within the tribe. It was amazing driving through there for miles, with thousands of pump jacks in operation as far as the eye could see. They have mostly dried up, but new drilling/exploration techniques are creating a resurgence in oil and gas production.
WAY back in the day, there was even an area called "little las Vegas". Complete with a casino, Olympic pool, airstrip, hotel and bordello. The buildings are still there, in ruin, and I can always remember the old timers in my youth talking about the card cheats being buried up in the hills.
Anyway, so much for my rambling. I have a lot more history on the Osage tribe, and the tribal land. I live on the Osage Nation reservation.
