1895 Marlin .45-70 and Leupold VX Hog 1X4

Does it have a safety? JM stamp? I have never heard of the Marlin flop that that link talked about.

Mine has the crossbolt safety, never paid any attention to the markings, and the trigger doesn't rattle.

I think (could be wrong) that the "trigger flop" is in reference to the trigger having play in it on the newer Marlins. My 1895 GSBL is new production and while it does not "rattle" it does move a little if I push it with my finger ... none of which should bother my shooting.

Interesting. I've had this gun for years but really dont know a whole lot about them compared to my other guns.

Just looked at mine, the serial # starts with MR, which I would guess means either Marlin Rifle, or Marlin Remington. Trigger has about 1/4 inch of flop, but doesn't rattle. I suppose it would if I shook it hard enough. Once you take that slack up though, it's not a bad trigger. I don't have a gauge, but I'd guess it 'twixt 4 and 5 pounds. Not near as hard as the 8 pound trigger on my 1911.

Nice work with that big bore. I finally had to put a Williams peep on mine. Not nearly as good as glass, but a lot better than the factory rear sight.

Mine has a crisp trigger, but is a bit heavier than I like. I'll look into the one you're referring too.

I called Marlin about my trigger. Factory spec is 8.5 pounds. Mine is at 7.5 pounds and clean. I did get the Wild West "Trigger Happy" trigger ... will try to get that in this week and will let you know how it works.

The Marlin is their GSBL model. Has a laminate stock that has some weather resistant green paint with black "webbing" in it. It's kind of growing on me too. It is a stainless gun with a case hardening finish that is black which is supposed to strengthen the stainless. Not sure if I like the three dot Williams "Fire Sight" (back are two green dots with the front red). Need to run some rounds through it before I put a ghost ring on it.

As to the chairs ... My wife builds those by "repurposing" old chairs for clients. These are going to the "Symphony Show Home" but will be for sale. Here is another one with my Marlin and my Winchester 44 mag Trapper as well as my S&W M629 (no dash). She did the distressed/aged "rocker" that has old yardsticks for a back that is really cool ... I hope it does not sell so I can keep it.

Love the 45-70. Tried it through an inexpensive break open and loved it ever since. Saving up for a Marlin guide gun in Stainless in 45-70.
