As the guy with the tracking dog told me…mechanical broadheads work great until they don’t.
Like this one? This was a Muzzy mechanical that failed on my last year. I found it two days later in the woods being eaten by buzzards. I looked and looked and finally gave up. Then I found him about a half mile away, following the birds two days later.

He scored at 148 5/8 so you can see why I wanted to find him so bad.

Tapatalk and OSA quit playing nicely and I've been pretty busy this year so infrequent lurking is what I'm left with.

Last week was tough hunting between the moon and weather. Minimal chasing, mostly at night and then suddenly in hunting in a nursery. After two all-day sits with nothing but fawns, i decided to go hunt 5 acres 10 miles away that produced last year's buck.

Morning hunt: got busted by a deer 10 yards away coming in behind me while putting a glove on right at shooting light. Had a couple chase a occur 50 yards out in the thick stuff. Saw a buck at 10 chasing and decided to grunt at him to try and pull him off the doe. He walked in to 35 yards then tore off away from the doe. Suddenly a larger buck followed him, not offering a shot. They cleared 2 fences and a road before i lost sight of them. Guess i went too dominant on the grunts? Weird.

Afternoon hunt: had some things to do during lunch, so i left at 1130 and came back at 230. Only saw a fawn at 3 and a 5 point at 4. It was oddly dead. 430 I'm hearing stuff just out of visibility, like deer feeding. Then the grunting starts 100 yards away and closing. 2 does bust out; one in front of me at 12 yards and the other behind me in thick crap. I figure i got the bunk doe, being in the open, but I'm ready anyway. Crashing gives way as this buck comes running in starting at 35 yards. Quick check shows he's mature. I let out a meh when he hits 15 yards. Air breaks engaged, instant stop. He takes 3 steps straight backyard but the arrow is on it's way. He makes a 60 yard circle, directly away from the fence i have to get him through, and falls over. He's a mainframe 8 with a kicker and 1 scorable sticker. The back of his brows look like saw teeth. I luckily noticed he'd just peed on his legs and stank something fierce. My buddy got a handful of tarsal when he came to assist with clearing the fencing though lol.
