So last night in a coffee & mountain dew induced frenzy of googling things that might help this little rifle shoot better I read where a guy had basically lapped his bore with some fine valve lapping compound and then some soft metal polish and had great results. This rifle had some chatter marks and rough rifling so....

I don't recommend & in fact suggest you don't try it on your rifle but when I get desperate I pull stupid out of the bag and let it take over, always have been that way.

I broke out the valve lapping compound, smeared some on a bore mop and proceeded to get to work . 30 careful passes later I cleaned out the compound with some break cleaner and then ran some metal polish down the bore a few times cleaned it up and went to bed.

First up this morning at the range the Winchester 45 grain hp's. At this point I figured my stupidity had only made things worse at least no better

Almost ready to quit I pulled out 3 55gr VMAX which is the bullet I really needed to shoot for me so I could deer hunt with this gun. This thing went from not really liking these to now shooting them better than it has anything so far. I'm leaving well enough alone but I'm stoked about the results. Fired several more 3 shot groups and the 55's are stacking in like I was praying for, easily under an inch now

Glad it’s working out, I really expected the lighter bullets to be more accurate with that twist rate.
Common sense would make you think so but I once had a savage model 10 precision carbine the was 1-8 or 1-9 that shot 45gr hp's like a dream...you just never know I guess

Wanting to try some low 60 grain bullets next like 60gr VMAX & even 62gr game kings just for the heck of it

I don’t see why not. When you get the projectile it likes you can customize the load and seating depth to really dial it in.
