I've had a 4x4 for years, and maybe a handful of times have actually NEEDED 4x4. But should I want the package of trim options I want, it pretty well comes 4x4. So it is what it is.
Whatever you choose you need the right tires.
33x12.5x15 Mud Terrain on my old Van with a 3.50 gear. 2WD and both will spin at the same time.
I like the option of the 4wd.
One of the best I had was the 4runner.
The current ride a 2022 silverado 4x4. It does great. Today coming home from work, in Auto mode, there were no issues.

To add to what I said earlier, I've been shopping for an older pickup lately and I definitely want to find one with four wheel drive that fits my budget if I can. It's not a total deal breaker but it would be a bonus to have 4WD.
BS that’s not true not even close.
Just a reminder that 4wd is so one would not get stuck or gaining traction when starting to drive in slick areas. It is not for driving as fast you can down the road in the snow.

Been all over in the impala today. Didn’t spin unless I was trying.
I got my first four wheel drive pickup the day I graduated high school and I hung out with a group of guys that had 4x4s. We were always challenging others to go places where we didn't think they could make it through.
We used to say that four wheel drive was for getting stuck farther from the house.
At 9:00 this morning the 2wd trucks were fishtailing in front of me on Reno. I went to auto 4wd and was fine.
