I have a P229 chambered in .40S&W and am considering purchasing a .357 Sig barrel.

Should I? TopGunSupply has them (out of stock currently) for $160. From what I've read, the .357 Sig is a great caliber. Who has the .357 Sig barrel? Is it better for CCW?

Thanks!

Define "Better".

I wouldn't, but I'm out of the .357 Sig game completely. I owned a G32 for a short while and decided to get rid of it because it was too expensive to shoot.

If you're not shooting a lot of rounds through this gun to practice or train, then you probably shouldn't be carrying it (especially if its a semi-auto).

If you can afford to shoot .357 Sig and just want to try it out, then by all means - get one. Its cheaper than getting a complete gun :D

I never really know what the term "stopping power" means, but the 357 SIG certainly carries more energy and is better at penetrating inanimate objects, such as windshields, than a 40 S&W. I have 3 P229's. One 40 P229 SCT, one 357 SIG two tone and another 357 SIG that came with a 40 barrel (obviously they are all interchangeable). I usually carry the 40. To me, the caliber's are as interchangeable as the barrels.

I have 229 in .357 SIG and I'm looking for a 40 barrel just to afford to shoot. If that answers any questions. I love the 357 sig real flat shooting.

wow, is the ammo that expensive? I've been buying .40sw for $20 per 50 rounds. I thought I saw .357sig for $25 per 50. Is that about what you're paying?

Yes 40 is much less expensive. Although you can find deals online for .357 sig that makes it a lot cheaper than $25. But you got to buy it in bulk.

Just got my p229 SAS in .357 Sig, and am second guessing my decision. I could of go a 9mm and been able to shoot 3 times as much for the price. $25 buck for box of .357 Sig and $8 for box of 9mm. Crazy.

A buddy of mine has a 229 that was originally a .40 that he bought the .357 Sig barrel for. It's fun to shoot .357 Sig, but I will note that since the ammo is supersonic, his 229 is a 'muffs & earplugs gun. It has a VERY loud report!
