7.62x54 R

My grandson got a mosin nagant for Christmas in 7.62x54 R . I'"m going to start reloading for it , here is my question . What diameter bullet to use I see from .308-.311 . Does anyone load for this rifle & caliber ? What do you use w/ what type of results ? THANKS

Cast the chamber/bore for the best idea . but most of the time .311/.312 is the way to go . I do 11gr of unquine with a cast 150 gr for a mild recoil in mine.

As cheap as mosin ammo is, you are better off just buying ammo for it. At one point it was cheaper than 22lr

I've been considering reloading 54R also. Just to have fun and maybe produce a viable hunting round. I scored some PPU brass , just need to slug some barrels and acquire some projectiles. Now my question is .....I have some Accurate 2495 and have been told I could use this for 54R. Is this the same as XMR -2495 ? The Lyman book shows xmr2495 and Xmp 5744. I have Accurate 5744 also. Just don't want any misunderstanding. Anyone have any experience with this powder ?
Please be patient with me I'm still alittle green to reloading. I like to ask alot of questions. Thanks !

From what i can find the 2 2495 are the same just renamed but if I was you i would email or call and ask the manufactor to be 100% sure and safe.
