We are all aware of the "90% of guns used in Mexican crime come from the US" myth (and all of it's variations). It's not 90%, not even 90% of those submitted to the ATF for tracing, but just 87% of those the ATF was able to trace and 12% of the total guns seized in Mexico.

Here's a good article that spells it out pretty well....I'm using it to educate my lefty kin. Maybe something will get through their thick skulls.

Great article! Thanks for the post. It's incredibly helpful since someone in my class brought up "....we supply mexican cartels..." last class. Now I can throw this back at her, but I doubt she'll listen anyways.

Actually, there's some truth to the claim that we're supplying the cartels--specifically, that BATFE is supplying them:

Probably also worth looking at http://www.examiner.com/gun-rights-in-national/a-journalist-s-guide-to-project-gunwalker

Sorry, should have expanded a bit on that. What she was saying was that since we (the U.S.) have guns, it makes it our fault for all the shootings in Mexico. Basically, if the U.S. didn't have any guns, Mexican cartels wouldn't be able to get any guns.

I understand what you are saying, and thanks for the articles.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed, unless we supply Mexican drug cartels."

^^^ It does not say that.

Interesting, but it distracts from the main point that firearms bought and smuggled across our border (regardless of who is doing the smuggling) into Mexico are not the majority of the problem in Mexico.

A stolen pistol from Oklahoma isn't f-ing up Mexico...drugs, corruption, poverty, and machine guns from Guatemala are.

Let's not forget that the recent murder of a U.S. Border Patrol Agent was committed with a rifle that the BATF smuggled into Mexico via their Project Gunrunner campaign.

http://jpfo.org/kirby/kirby-wouldnt-it-be.htm

That BATF called it Project Gunrunner until they got caught. Then they changed their covert operation to Project Gunwalker to conceal the nature of their business. Read about it on Wikepedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Gunrunner

You can read about the cover up here:
http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/02/death_in_the_desert_project_gu.html

Lastly, ask yourself "why would Mexican drug cartel pay inflated prices for guns smuggled from the U.S. instead of buying any of the many rifles and pistols that can be bought at any Mexican seaport that have been smuggled in by the boat load?"

Here's an article about Senator Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) asking the ATF to "come clean" on its involvement with the shooting.
