My son, 18 yrs old, purchased his first used car, without dad tagging along. Honestly, I was a little sad that I wasn't there. But, happy he was able to negotiate it out.
Good on you for letting him make his way in the world! In my opinion, kids being coddled into young adulthood is a huge problem today.

My oldest granddaughter was looking for a new car. Salesmen, being what they, seeing a 20 yo lady, went into full predator mode.
I had coached for several months. She wouldn't play their game. Finally, frustrated she called me. I quickly dismissed the jerks and got a salesman I had worked with before and the deal made.
Now, 25, married and 1 daughter, she needed a larger vehicle. Went to the dealership and worked her own deal.

I am not a fan of car sales personnel, I was one, but refused to screw people over. Especially young, first timers and dealership suggested I may not suited to car sales. That was the most predatory place I had ever seen.
