If I hear something about a 7mmRUM again, Well I might just have to get one..22-243 and 7mmRUM if I just had to pick a couple off the top of my quickly.

How could the .270 be a barrel burner? It's only 150 to 200 fps faster than a 30-06? My .270 certainly hasn't burnt out the barrel after a couple thousand rounds.
I'm not following this. A .308 firing a 150 grain round(the sweet spot of the .308) is at 3000 fps according to the winchester factory ammo ballistics table. http://www.gunnersden.com/index.htm.308winchester-ballistics.html270's will lose accuracy after a few thousand rounds, now it depends on how accurate you need to be but any necked down high velocity rounds don't last as long as a say a 308, I've read 6k to 8k rounds for a 308 and 2000 out of a 270, it wills till shoot just lose accuracy. Just like a 6.5 creedmoor won't last as long as 308....
I believe with the three you mentioned above the bore diameter starts taking a toll. If you keep going to the 1/4 bore it gets worse.I'm not following this. Using another table, the 30-06 using its sweet spot of the 165 grain bullet, is 2800 fps. http://www.gunnersden.com/index.htm.308winchester-ballistics.html
The .270 using its sweet spot of 130 grain is 3060fps per this link. http://www.gunnersden.com/index.htm.308winchester-ballistics.html
I'm having a hard time seeing how a .270 is a barrel burner when it falls right in with the other calibers in weight and velocity.
I will say that the .270 is not an inherently accurate round. Nobody shoots a .270 at matches, although I've dialed my Winchester Pre-64 super grade to shoot 1/2" groups at 100 yds with reloads. It's still not a match accuracy type of rifle.
A buddy just got a 280 Ackley Improved. Its a tad flatter than the 280 Rem. Not a shoulder buster either at the range.
Doesn't have every cal in the thread but some good info. 7mm Rem Mag would beat many there as would others.
