They need the inground door blockers to slam up from the floor to the ceiling to block him.......Yeah, right...
Bold move for sure by the thief, but doesn't walmart have a policy that the employees can only follow and not tackle and detain like they used to do? Dunno.
I work in management at a Big Box Store. It's insane the amount of pressure that corporate applies to the team to lower shrink #'s. On the other hand, wait......they tie those behind our backs concerning the actions we can take to accomplish this metric. A fair analogy would be tasked to walk a tightrope, carrying a lemon cream pie, with no balancing rod while the corporate 'upper crust' are doing their darndest to shake the tightrope.
I read on another forum a post from a guy that did work in management in a large chain. They did the studies and the loss numbers are supposedly a drop in the bucket. When they detain someone they ALWAYS get sued and ALWAYS settle. Due to that they mandate to their employees to let them walk and they have a zero tolerance policy on it. That's why this guy got fired. That's where my numbers comment came from and I thought it was from this forum when I posted. 
Ef Academy, Walmart or any other box store that has a policy of not releasing a firearm on delay until they get an actual proceed. I’ve never been convicted of anything worse than jaywalking yet get deleyed half the time. They treat me like I’m some POS yet I’ve got a drivers license that says veteran and a valid CCW. Again EfEm!!!!
So what does this have to do with a criminal walking out of a store?
This criminal will be back in the news for a mass shooting. He's already made the promise and now he's on the street again.
You know, I see stories like this, and I wonder if its time for gun manufactures to start sending non-working demo guns. Something like everything else is the same but the barrel is solid or plugged at the breech end. That way if its stolen it can't be used. I know the barrel can be swapped. But if it was marked demo, non-functional it might stop some thieves.
I've been delayed more at mom & pop shops than anywhere else. I walked into Academy during my lunch hour once and walked out with the pistol and still made it back in time. It's a crap shoot, has nothing to do with the seller.
I spend a lot of money in Academy, Walmart, Lowes, etc. I have always been treated well. In today's culture, corporations are getting sued way too often, and it costs virtually as much to win as it does to lose. The loss of a $500 item is a small price to pay to avoid a $200,000 trip to the attorney. (prices may vary). These policies are created by folks with years of experience, and the goal of creating maximum financial potential for the business. It's pretty easy for us to sit here, looking at one event, and judge the entire Big Box world. They seem to be doing pretty well without our input.
