I put all new vinyl windows in two houses I have remodeled in the past couple of years. I done a LOT of research on where to get them - all major places that carry windows. The very best price (by far) that I found was Andersons Lumber in Siloam Springs, Ark. Last year I got 12 new windows (custom, 41" x 44") low-e, gridded, double pane for just over a grand. Being as you're in Tulsa, it very well may be worth your drive over there. I would call them at the very least. They ordered in my custom sized windows much cheaper than I could get the discount "regular" sized windows at the the other places, and mine aren't green :D

Aluminum conducts the heat away to the outside so fast that water condenses on them from the inside.
Then you get cracks and peeling on the wall surface next to the windows.

The newer aluminum windows have an insulating material between the outside and the inside - to prevent this from occurring.

Not saying that you should chose aluminum, but don't let the threat of condensation make up your mind.

Talked to several manufacturers including Thermal, Sears, and others. After all of the sales BS and the extras that they wanted to tack on to repair sills and such, I played them for about a week and went with Sears vinyl, low e-2 tilt-in etc. They came down on the price to beat another company, replaced all of the sills, wrapped all of the framing and sills with aluminum ( no extra charges) and have a warranty that includes breakage. Don't be afraid to play their bids against each other.

We had Vinyl windows installed at the house we were renting. Well the owner cut the check we just did the leg work for her.

We loved the finish product. It was on a 50's era house so the old rotten wood windows were taken out without much effort. We didn't go low E or any gas filled.

I'm sure the discussion will come up at my house sometime about windows. I will more than likely be choosing an aluminum window over vinyl. Personally I like the look of Aluminum over Vinyl.

Just to give a small sample, the lattice work inside the windows is the same color as the frame.

I've talked with alot of folks on this and they all say the same thing. I've never seen low-e windows that are green.

I talked to the folks at PPG and they said, well, yes, especially the soligard 70, they do have a greenish tint to them, but it shouldn't be really noticeable.
But it is. And on large windows, and lotsa windows, it is very noticeable.

Dude, did you peel off the protective green coating on the windows :hyper:

:wink2:

Every one of our vinyl windows has warped to the point that they will now have to be replaced. To make matters worse, we cannot get the manufacture to honor the "lifetime transferable warranty", because we don't have the "original" payment receipt from the previous owners, just the warranty card, work order signed as complete, delivery receipt and brochures that the installers left after installing the windows.

That freaking sucks! Share with us who the manufacturer is so we are sure not to use them! Good luck!
