Got my second envelope the other day. Plus now they are calling. I don't mind the decennial short form census so much, but this one is over the top. I've never returned one in the past.
Have you filled it out completely and sent it in or did you put it in the round file?
There are a number of questions that I have no desire to answer, but I've heard you get more hassles from the Census Bureau folks if you return it with questions unanswered than if you don't return it at all. I would prefer to tell them to go pound sand. If they need to know my income or if I'm on medicare, they can call the IRS. They don't need to know what time we leave for work, how long it takes to get there or return home, or what my mortgage payment and utilities cost me.
This is supposed to be a random pick of addresses, and the envelopes are addressed to "resident". So how is it they know my phone number and are leaving messages? If they can cross-ref the address to a phone number then why don't they just address it to ME in the first place?
Has anyone actually been fined for not complying?
