American Horse Lake and other small water questions

Couldn't stand not being a boat owner any longer, and got a 15 foot jon boat with a 42" beam. Usually run it on a 30# electric, but have a Suzuki 2.5 4 stroke for longer runs and trolling.

So, big water is pretty much out of the question. It's great for ponds, and some smaller lakes on good days will be doable.

Years ago I fished a little at American Horse, and it was a great bluegill lake. I hear it has been under repairs, and am wondering if they let it fill up in the recent rains. A quick internet search showed up with a lot of old info.

Any current info on this will be appreciated. Also, what small waters do you recommend? I live in NW OKC, so the closer the better. Not really a meat fisherman. Nearly everything I catch gets to go right back in the water.

Any info would be appreciated.

Last I saw was a couple weeks ago and it was still closed to boat access. It was on Outdoor Oklahoma, so not sure if it was dated info though.

Water has come up to the end of the boat ramp. I called the local Gane Warden last week and he said they are close to reopening it to boats.

That could have been where I saw it, rather than Outdoor Oklahoma a couple weeks ago that said it was closed to boats at the moment.

You might try lake Elmer just west of Kingfisher. Good bluegill fishing, and a few bass and catfish. Nothing real big as they just started stocking it a few years ago, but I always catch some.

Recent fishing report I got in an email said American Horse won't be open until Sept 1.
