If I thought they even remotely cared what I or any of their constituents think, this is what I might say to the newly minted Republican majority in the House:

"As a conservative Republican, I offer this warning: The Republicans who retook the House and weakened the Democratic hold on the Senate would be monumentally stupid to consider this a "win". It's anything but a win. You were merely deemed the less awful choice in a historically awful lineup of candidates. Don't get cocky. Instead, start reassessing how you conduct the people's business. You've been given fair warning. Your approval rating hovers just slightly North of Adolph Hitler. Keep up the same old crap and you might find yourselves in worse shape that you already are. You're not special, you're not smarter than us and you're not indispensable. Got it?"

Ya know, why don't we as a group put this into an email and send it to all of our newly elected polititicians.
Just a little one on one reminder. They all have a web site that has an email.
I'm thinking I'm going to take some time and do this right now.

Obama never used the word "bus." He said in the back PERIOD. as in the punctuation mark "."

He was alluding to the metaphor republicans have widely used of the state of the nation being a vehicle and the politicians in power being the drivers. The republicans started that, once again. He alluded to that saying the middle class is riding passenger seat, and the republicans can sit in the back (period). No implying the bus scenario. That was a "faux" analyst who went that way, and then a African-American Republican using it in his campaign.

Not sure which part you disagree with. I'll try to outline main points and maybe we can determine where we differ.

*Dems were able to accomplish almost nothing because of Repub stonewalling.
FALSE. The dems had a super majority (veto proof) plus the white house and could stop the repubs from doing everything. They just didn't have the sack to do it. The repubs didn't even have to show up. They could do NOTHING that the dems didn't allow and likewise couldn't stop the dems from doing anything they wanted to do.

*We need a bipartisan approach to government.
Only if both sides really do agree on the issue at hand. What I mean is that the public wants change. What things are done and how they are done. The dems wouldn't play ball with the public's wishes so they got voted out last night. If the repubs start letting the dems have some of what they want now, and have been wanting all along, it will be disastrous for the repubs in 2012 because they ran on the opposite platform. They can't reverse course now at all.

*Dems know after Tuesday that most Americans think they want less gov't.
I couldn't really tell that from the President's speech today. It was like, last week he called them "enemies" and now he wants to be all bipartisan. Kinda like the big bully when he finally gets confronted? Today he was still defiant IMO but his tone was sure different.

*Opportunity now exists for a few non-disastrous changes
Agreed, but they will all be small ball stuff. Anything of substance will still be a fight.

*With Repub control of the house, stonewalling is an image Repubs can no longer afford.
Agreed. They better pass a full repeal of healthcare and let Obama veto it or 2012 isn't gonna be pretty.

I did not use the word "compromise," and did not intend to suggest that it should be anyone's policy. However "my way or else" isn't a good place to be either.
My bad. The media just associates bi-partisanship with compromise so often, everytime I hear the term that sticks with me. Actually "my way or else" worked out in a history making election last night. 60 plus house seats is a huge deal!

So, if you wouldn't mind, which of the points do you disagree with, and what do you think needs to happen now that the House has changed majorities?
The repubs need to proceed full tilt to repealing most of what's happened in the last two years. They won't get much of it done, but if they don't try, they will just be called out on paying lip service to get elected. And rightly so.

See above.

What we need is less government! Unfortunately, we will not get that from either side. How about at least 1/2 of the current spending? Not a chance in hell from dems or repubs. So basically it makes very little difference. Besides, it's the fed that is f@cking us, and they aren't controlled by either side.

:werd:
This exactly. Everyone talks about spending cuts until it is time to actually make cuts. Nothing ever changes.

So you post a vid of him saying exactly what you said Fox made up and still say they made it up? Nice!

:rollingla

What? You obviously didn't watch that video. That Fox news kool aid must be really good.

OK, let's put the shoe on the other foot. If a white Republican had said the exact same thing Obama did wouldn't it have been reported to be racist, as he was really implying "back of the bus". Obama is African-American when he says "sit in the back of the car" don't you think he knows what that will be interpreted as meaning due to his race.

And things will not change, new boss same as the old boss.

Actually, if you watch the end of the video it has an example of Michael Steele saying exactly the "back of the bus" statement and no one ever made any mention of it (and I know he isn't white but neither is BHO). You would think all the liberal left wing media would have jumped all over that already huh? Maybe the liberal media conspiracy is lagging a little bit. Or just maybe, Fox is trying to manufacture a scandal by putting words in BHO's mouth? Nah, must be the liberal media again!:screwy:

But I really didn't mean for this thread to get off topic. Prior to all of this Fox news talk there was some really good points. Sorry!:offtopic2:

You just don't get it do you?

The republicans held both the house AND senate AND the WH from 2000-2006 and yet they couldn't deliver on their promises.

Lower the deficit? NO
Smaller government? NO
Win the war on terror? NO

The democrats held both the house AND the senate AND the WH from 2009-2010 and they couldn't deliver on their promises.

Fix the economy? NO
Get us out of Iraq and Afghanistan? NO
Close Gitmo? NO

I'm thinking I'm going to take some time and do this right now.

Well guess what I just got in my inbox:

A Sweet Sweep!

In what is being called the most remarkable election in Oklahoma history, Republicans swept every statewide office last night and increased majorities in both the State House and Senate. It’s a night I will never forget.

Over the last 72 hours, The Oklahoma Republican Party made over 350,000 phone calls, sent over 245,000 mail pieces and delivered over 100,000 door hangers to targeted precincts.

Yes, last night had a lot to do with the Democrats' far left agenda. But let me be crystal clear about something: when you have better candidates running better campaigns with better ideas, you usually win, and that’s what happened last night in Oklahoma.

Oklahoma voters are a smart bunch. We knew that as much as Oklahoma Democrats wanted to avoid talking about healthcare, taxes, and immigration reform, the election was going to be defined by them. And furthermore, we knew that these issues affect our state and must be fixed now.

Just a few of the highlights nationally: Republicans picked up Barack Obama's former Senate seat in Illinois, we have a rising star in Marco Rubio, who easily won Florida's Senate seat over two challengers, and Republicans ousted Democrat incumbents in Wisconsin (Russ Feingold) and Arkansas (Blanche Lincoln). In the House, Republicans gained a net of 60 seats last night; which puts the House at 239 Republican seats, 185 Democrat seats, and 11 seats uncalled. This is the biggest seat gain by either party since 1948.
.
It was truly a remarkable night. But the most important words from this election cycle may have been three words spoken months ago: “I hear you.”

That was Mary Fallin during her acceptance speech after her Republican Primary win. They were words that united our Party. They were words that reassured voters that now Governor-elect Fallin was in tune with Oklahoma voters, and she heard them loud and clear.

Elected officials understand they are dealing with an entirely new animal. It is an electorate that will not accept business-as-usual in Washington, D.C. or Oklahoma. An electorate that demands fiscal restraint. And most importantly, an electorate that is more engaged than ever before.

It’s an honor and privilege to be your Chairman during this historic election season. I thank you for what you did to help make last night happen. And finally, I want you to know I hear you too. This Party will not let up one bit. 2012 starts today.

Your Chairman,

Matt Pinnell

And guess who I just got through emailing my reply to?

Dennis, I like this idea!:clap3:

I just sent it to my new representative that beat out Ken Luttrell. One of the 7 dems that voted for the open carry law in the first vote, and then voted against it at the final vote. It came back to haunt him....among other things.
I interpret the 2nd amendment verbatim.
Luttrell was invited to visit out gun club and didn't have time.
Steve Vaughan did and gave a good presentation.
I hope he and the others that will get this email understand that the people are tired of the same old crap and will hold them accountable for their actions.
I hope I'm not the only one that will send this email that GTG brought up to their reps. The next one will go to Tom Coburn and Jim Enhoff
